Fall is certainly in the air! The colors have begun to change and the fishing is changing a bit as well. With the cold nights, the hatches are getting a bit later and we are starting to see a few BWOs showing up which is of course the late fall and winter bug of choice.
The day begins with an incredible Caddis migration around 10:00 with the Tricos getting started around that same time. The Trico spinner fall is happening around 11 with Caddis and male Tricos again in the evening. Incredibly, there are still a few PMDs (infrequens) around mid-day for about an hour and the fish are ON them!
The Caddis patterns working well right now are E.C., Gray and olive para caddis, low profile and Henry's fork Caddis size 20 and 22. The Tricos are the comparadun male and females in size 22. The Baetis patterns that are working are the para baetis, CDC baetis dun, para Adams and the sparkle dun all in sizes 20 and 22. The hoppers that are working well, (even though the naturals are almost gone) are the Dave's hopper, para grey hopper and the panty-dropper hopper, all of which we have plenty here at our fly shop.
Hot Creek is fishing as well as it ever has and is in great shape! Thinks about the fall rod fee fishing from November 6-17.
See you soon, Kevin and Lisa
